Oxted maintained their four match unbeaten run with a hard fought 1-1 draw as Dawn Tarrier rescued the game with a stunning short corner with less than 2 minutes remaining to leave the team lying second in the table.
Oxted began on the back foot as a Kenley side strengthened by recent mergers with Phoenix and Shirley started the game strongly. Shiggi Paktar continued her fine form with several excellent saves, and Sally Moore, Amanda Lamy, Laura Waple and Laura Tarrier defended with tenacity. As the half progressed Oxted fought back into the match and Alex Smith and Ruth Smythe began to get a grip of the midfield. Oxted went so close to scoring especially when Alison Langham flicked on a Nicky Boast shot only to see it run across the line before drifting past the post. Egged on by this Kirsty Browne was all effort as she pushed the side forward and Mary Greenham also came close to scoring. The half ended goalless with both sides striving to score, the half time talk urged effort and heart, both of which the team gave in abundance.
Kenley again started the half the better and nearly went ahead as they hit the post, and then Moore saved on the line at a short corner. The inevitable followed as Kenley took the lead with a well worked move. Oxted came back into the game and were feeling that the luck was against them as the ball just failed to fall for them in the D. Tarrier had a short corner effort disallowed as it failed to hit the backboard and Langham hit the post. But the side refused to give up, and with time running out it was Oxted who pressed and were finally rewarded for their efforts as Tarrier expertly buried a short corner for the draw that was a fair result.
This week Oxted take on Woking 2a's at the County School at 12:00.

Oxted 6 v 0 Tulse Hill & Dulwich
Oxted got their league season off to a brilliant start with a 6 - 0 victory over Tulse Hill & Dulwich to stamp down a marker of their intent this season. This win came from a superb first half performance when Oxted's hockey was simply too hot for the opposition to live with.
Oxted began in stunning style scoring from their first attack as Kirsty Browne followed up a short corner to fire the ball home for a lead in under 2 minutes. Rather than sit back Oxted launched a wave of attacks on the beleaguered Tulse Hill goal. Ruth Smythe provided the cross, Alison Langham flicked the ball towards the goal and Bethan Chitty was in the right place at the right time to scoop the ball in at the far post. At 2-0 in 5 minutes Oxted were cruising the backs of Amanda Lamy, Sally Moore, and Charlie Spencer exuded confidence while the midfield of Nicky Boast, Dawn and Laura Tarrier and Smythe dominated.
Smythe combined with Dawn Tarrier and Mary Greenham and crossed the ball in to the near post where Langham clipped through the keeper's legs. Oxted were now rampant and at the next short corner Dawn Tarrier thumped the ball into the corner in emphatic style for a 4-0 lead. Oxted had not yet finished and this time it was Browne who crossed for Langham to deflect home and just before half time Chitty also collected her second as she scrambled the ball home.
At 6-0 coach Simon Dobson gave a half time team talk urging the team to keep pressing forward but they were unable to match the efforts of the first half as Tulse Hill fought back. Shiggi Paktar was called into service and made several saves including one unbelievable short range reflex stop. Tulse Hill realised it would not be their day and as Greenham and Browne found their combination they set up numerous chances which Oxted failed to convert.
This win leaves Oxted well placed for an attack on the league title this season. This week they play Kenley in a local derby game.

Addiscombe 0 v 18 Oxted
Oxted romped to victory as they scored an avalanche of second half goals to match their best ever scoreline, Alison Langham led the way with 9 goals whilst Kirsty Browne notched up 5.
Playing opposition from a lower league can prove a banana skin as Oxted showed last season losing several of these fixtures. This season the team has a more experienced edge and Simon Dobson's training was rewarded as Charlie Spencer, Amanda Lamy and Ruth Smythe played the ball confidently round the back of defence, whilst Dawn Tarrier, Nikki Boast, Alex Smith and Laura Tarrier were in full control of the midfield. This allowed the forward trio of Langham, Browne and Bethan Chiity to run riot.
Oxted began brightly with a several new players slotting into the squad in excellent fashion. In particular Alex Smith and Amanda Lamy had strong games with Ruth Smythe enjoying the freedom her attacking wing back position allowed. Browne hammered the first goal home before setting up the second for Langham. Oxted then made the most of a series of short corners with Browne and Langham reaching their hat-tricks for a first half 6-0 lead.
In the second half Oxted let loose with Smythe adding two goals of her own following fine play down the right. Browne added another from a short corner before Bethan Chitty capped her second strong game with first goal of the season. Addiscombe made substitutions to stem the flow but Shiggi Paktar in goal and Dani Smith coped with the oppositions foray's into the D.
Langham poached six further goals to give the scoreline a very flattering gloss. Then with time running out Laura Tarrier scored from the edge of the D and Browne wrapped the game up with a final goal at the end.
Next week Oxted start their league campaign against Tulse Hill and Dulwich at the County School and on this form look to be more of a force in the league after avoiding relegation last year.

Match 2007
Oxted
2 v 0 Guildford
With
promotion a faint hope Oxted played with pride
to overcome an opposition they had never previously
beaten. Player of the match Ellie Hepburn continued
her superb season making several breathtaking
saves whilst Charlotte Lee grabbed a fast brace
to stun the visitors
Oxted started like a steam train and were two
up within 15 minutes as Lee pounced on a loose
ball to score the first and took full advantage
of Laura Tarrier’s industry for the second.
This whirlwind start took the wind out of Guildford
who took time to settle, but once they did they
began to dominate. Oxted defended like terriers
with Ellie Bishop, Sally Moore and Becca Hand
doggedly determined. Ellie Hepburn played magnificently
making three point blank reflex saves when goals
seemed the more likely outcome. Guildford must
have felt jinxed, the one time they beat Hepburn,
Moore made a fabulous goal line clearance.
The second half saw an open game with Oxted unable
to add to their tally and Guildford speedily counter
attacking. The game ended in controversy as Guildford
thought they had scored but the umpires overturned
the decision. The win leaves Oxted tantalisingly
out of the promotion zone and relying on teams
above them to slip up.

Uni
of Surrey 0 v 4 Oxted
Oxted
laboured but eventually triumphed in this game
which saw the youngsters star as Laura Tarrier
(age 13) was voted player of the match and Bethan
Chitty (age 14) scored her first senior goal for
the club.
The
game started in a bright fashion as Oxted took
an early lead when Vicky MacKay squared the ball
for Alison Langham to powerfully strike home.
Oxted then lost their way as Surrey looked for
a way back, and were kept in the game by some
superbly instinctive saves by the ever reliable
Ellie Hepburn.
Oxted
regained their composure and Laura Tarrier found
a new role on the right wing as she gained in
confidence each time she beat her player. But
Oxted could not increase their advantage as their
passing too often went astray.
The
second half saw the tempo raised as straight from
the push back Dawn Tarrier, Vicky MacKay and Louise
Leigh combined to create a chance that Laura Tarrier
nearly converted. Desperately in need of the points
Oxted finally got their second goal as Ellie Bishop
found Maggie Hayward free in the middle, the defence
backed off and Hayward hit an excellent strike
which deflected off Langham into the goal.
Oxted
could now relax and Dawn Tarrier was unlucky not
to add to her short corner strikes as a Surrey
defender deflected a certain goal round the post.
The next goal came as Jeannine Trim picked up
a cross from MacKay and struck the ball goal wards,
her strike was deflected by a defender into the
corner.
With
time running out Oxted put a gloss on the victory
as MacKay found Langham whose cross shot was tipped
in by a delighted Bethan Chitty.

Oxted
6 v 1 Barnes
Oxted
kept doing what they have to do as they returned
to winning ways to keep on track with promotion
rivals, as Dawn Tarrier took player of the match
honours along with two superbly struck short
corners.
With Caroline Hawes substituting for regular
goalkeeper Ellie Hepburn Oxted started nervously
but had no need to worry as Hawes threw herself
at every challenge. Oxted moved up the other
end and had a series of short corners but could
not convert them. Then Charlotte Lee crossed
for Alison Langham to open the scoring. Within
minutes Oxted doubled their score as Lee broke
and again found Langham unmarked in the D to
fire passed the keeper. Barnes returned fire
and went into the break 2-1 down.
The second half saw Oxted truly take control as
Dawn Tarrier found her range and powered home
two corners in quick succession. This broke Barnes’s
resistance and Lee took full advantage grabbing
two goals to give Oxted a comfortable 6-1 win.
