Sunday 12 October

(HOME COUNTIES U12 Round 1)

Away v Purley Walcountians, Old Midwhitgiftians

Oxted U12 A’s

The A team had a winning start to the Home Counties with some very neat hockey. They worked extremely well as a unit and gave their opposition little time to settle into any rhythm.

Joe Foggin, in goal, to be fair, did not have too much to do but when called upon he was always alert to the danger. His older brother, James, had a magnificent tournament at the back. His positional play was very good and he used his experience at this level to help guide Oli Downes, who made some very telling tackles and interceptions.

In midfield the trio of Ross Powell, Zach Wallace and Jack Kite played very well together with Powell using his pace and power in the middle and Wallace and Kite playing disciplined roles in keeping the teams width.

James Sabin covered a lot of ground in his forward role frequently taking up good positions and keeping the opposition defender’s guessing.

Team: Joe Foggin, James Foggin, Downes, Kite, Powell, Wallace, Sabin

Results:

W2-0 v Old Midwives B (Powell 2)
W2-1 v Purley (Kite, Sabin)
W5-0 v Old Midwives A (Powell 4, Sabin)

Oxted U12 B’s

The B team had an excellent tournament and played very well together. You could see their confidence levels increasing as the tournament progressed. Alice Field and Catherine Ledesma played solidly at the back both making timely interceptions.

In midfield Stephen Brownsey, James Rudd-Jones and Ed Peet all competed really well and worked tirelessly for the team. Up front Isaac Quinton and Ed Rolfe caused opposition defenders problems with their constant harassing the ball.

Team: Peet, Quinton, Rolfe, Brownsey, Ledesma, Field, Rudd-Jones

Results:

L1-2 v Purley (Quinton)
D1-1 v Old Midwives B (Peet)
L1-2 v Old Midwives A (Rudd-Jones)

Sunday 5 October

Oxted, Bromley & Beckenham, Reigate Priory

Oxted hosted their first tournament of the season for its U12 teams. Despite atrocious weather conditions there was still a healthy number of juniors who turned up for a game. Oxted fielded 3 teams, with Bromley bringing 2 sides and Reigate Priory bringing one.

There was a good standard of hockey played throughout the morning. B & B's A team started with a 1-0 win over Oxted A's and Reigate Priory also had the same scoreline against B & B's B team.

Oxted A bounced back from their first game to beat B & B's B team 1-0 with James Rudd-Jones scoring the all important goal. In their next game the A's then beat Reigate Priory 2-1 with goals from Zach Wallace and Ross Powell. In their final game Oxted A's drew 0-0 with B& B's A team.

Meanwhile Oxted's B team beat Oxted's C team 1-0 with a goal from Isaac Quinton. They then followed that up with a very good 1-0 win over B & B's B team with James Sabin scoring. Oxted's C team also were involved in a couple of close games.

Everyone enjoyed the run out.

Sunday 10 Feb
The U10’s and U12’s played Reigate Priory U12’s in a round robin tournament. Spring came early with the juniors playing in perfect sunshine. The scores were:

Oxted U10’s v Reigate Priory U12’s         1-1        (Sabin)
Oxted U12’s v Reigate Priory U12’s         1-0        (Jack)
Oxted U12’s v Oxted U10’s                     2-1        (Sabin)
Oxted U10’s v Reigate Priory U12’s`        1-0        (Sabin)

Sunday 3 Feb
The U10’s played in the Purley Walcountians U11 festival and they did the club proud winning two and losing two in a tournament where our average age was two years younger than any of the teams we played against. In fact, the organisers commented on the performance of the U10’s saying they played the best hockey. In very cold conditions the results were:

L1-2 (Sabin)
L0-1
W1-0 (Wallace)
W1-0 (Rudd Jones)

SUNDAY 13 JANUARY

Oxted U10’s travelled to Sevenoaks for their fourth triangular of the season against Sevenoaks and Old Midwives.

Alligator’s: Joe Foggin, Noah Francis, Ollie Downes, Harry Oakes, Zach Wallace, James Rudd Jones, James Sabin, Tiarnan O’Rourke

Results:
D0-0 v Sevenoaks Antelopes
D0-0 v Old Midwives
W2-0 v Sevenoaks Barracudas (Rudd Jones, Wallace)
W2-0 v Sevenoaks Cobras (Wallace, Sabin)
W2-0 v Sevenoaks Antelopes (Francis, Oakes)

This was a very successful tournament for the Alligator’s. The first two games showed they were a bit rusty after the Christmas holidays but from game 3 the Alligator’s got back into their rhythm and were worthy winners in the remaining matches. Joe Foggin had very little to do in goal all morning.

Buffalo’s: Adam Shiplee, Findlay Dubell, Alice Field, Lydia de Lange, Isaac Quinton, Joseph Morland, Bailey O’Rourke, Katherine Ledesma

Results:
L0-1 v Sevenoaks Cobras
L0-1 v Old Midwives
D0-0 v Sevenoaks Barracudas
L0-2 v Sevenoaks Antelopes
D1-1 v Sevenoaks Cobras (O’Rourke)

The boys and girls got better with each game. The first two games the Buffalo’s were very unlucky to lose in what were the last two touches of the game. Bailey O’Rourke scored the Buffalo’s first goal ever in their last match against the Cobras and he celebrated accordingly!

SUNDAY 9 DECEMBER

Oxted U10’s travelled to Sevenoaks for their third triangular of the season against Sevenoask and Herne Bay.

A’s: Joe Foggin, Noah Francis, Ollie Downes, Harry Oakes, Zach Wallace, James Rudd Jones, James Sabin

Results:
W2-0 v Sevenoaks Antelopes (Sabin 2)
D0-0 v Herne Bay
W2-1 v Sevenoaks Barracudas (Sabin, Francis)
W4-0 v Sevenoaks Cobras (Sabin 2, Francis 2)
W1-0 v Sevenoaks Antelopes (Sabin)

This was a very successful tournament for the A’s. They played their best hockey of the season and really used the space very well. Playing on a half pitch really suited them.

B’s: Tiarnan O’Rourke, Findlay Dubell, Alice Field, Lydia de Lange, Isaac Quinton, Joseph Morland, Bailey O’Rourke, Katherine Ledesma

Results:
L0-2 v Sevenoaks Cobras
L0-2 v Herne Bay
D0-0 v Sevenoaks Barracudas
L0-1 v Sevenoaks Antelopes
D0-0 v Sevenoaks Cobras

This was a first tournament for a lot of the kids and they improved with every game. It will take a bit of time to understand the dynamics of a game but they have made a good start. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

SUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER

Oxted’s U9’s played in their home U10 tournament against Old Midwives and Sevenoaks. Their results in the group were:
Sevenoaks ‘B’ 0-0
Old Midwives 1-1 (Sabin)
Sevenoaks ‘A’ 2-0 (Sabin, Rudd)
These results meant that Oxted came 2nd in their group and so played Sevenoaks ‘B’ in the final. Oxted played superbly and never gave Sevenoaks a chance to settle. Zachary Wallace, Ollie Downes and James Sabin dominated the play and Oxted ran out comfortable winners 4-1 (Sabin 2, Wallace, Oakes)

Team: Tiarnan O’Rourke, Ollie Downes, Harry Oakes, Zach Wallace, James Rudd Jones, James Sabin, Findlay Dubell, Adam Shiplee

SUNDAY 4 NOVEMBER

Oxted U9’s played at Purley Walcountians in their first fixtures of the season. They were playing older opposition as Purley and Cheam fielded U11 teams.

Nonetheless in the first fixture against Purley, Oxted got a couple of early goals through Zach Wallace and James Sabin and so their confidence was high. James Rudd Jones added a third late on to give Oxted a comfortable win.

Against Cheam, Oxted were dominant from the beginning and forced good opportunities from the whistle. Oxted scored six goals without reply with goals by Zach Wallace (2), James Sabin (3) and Stephen Brownsey.

In their final game against Purley (again) Oxted played well in patches but became tired late on. Purley introduced a couple of older players to their team from the earlier encounter to make sure their wasn’t going to be a similar scoreline and their strategy worked with Purley running out 5-0 winners.

It was good experience for the Oxted team who now look forward to their next set of fixtures on 18th November at Oxted against Sevenoaks and Old Mid Whitgiftians.

Team: Joe Foggin, Ollie Downes, Harry Oakes, Zach Wallace, Stephen Brownsey, James Rudd Jones, James Sabin, Alice Field
